Change Nameservers on Hover | NOC.org Support

Hover provides a clean, straightforward interface for managing domain settings. This guide walks you through changing your domain's nameservers at Hover to point to NOC.

Before You Begin

  • Add your domain to the NOC Dashboard and verify the assigned nameservers (ns1.noc.org and ns2.noc.org).
  • Confirm your DNS records in NOC are complete and accurate, especially MX records if you use email.
  • Have your Hover login credentials ready.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to your Hover account.
  2. From the main dashboard, click Domains in the top navigation.
  3. Click on the domain name you want to update.
  4. In the domain overview page, click the DNS tab.
  5. Locate the Nameservers section. You will see Hover's default nameservers listed.
  6. Click Edit Nameservers.
  7. Replace the existing nameservers with:
    • Nameserver 1: ns1.noc.org
    • Nameserver 2: ns2.noc.org
  8. Remove any additional nameserver entries if present.
  9. Click Save Nameservers.

Propagation Time

Nameserver changes at Hover typically propagate within 30 minutes to 2 hours. Full global propagation can take up to 48 hours.

Verify the Change

Confirm the nameserver update using the dig command:

dig example.com NS +short

You should see:

ns1.noc.org.
ns2.noc.org.

Important Notes for Hover Users

  • Hover DNS records: After switching to custom nameservers, Hover's built-in DNS management is bypassed. All DNS changes must be made in the NOC Dashboard.
  • Hover email forwarding: If you use Hover's email forwarding feature, it will stop working after changing nameservers. Set up equivalent MX and forwarding records in NOC before making the switch.
  • Domain lock: Hover applies a transfer lock by default. This does not prevent nameserver changes, only domain transfers. You do not need to disable it.

Reverting to Hover Nameservers

If you need to switch back to Hover's default nameservers:

  1. Go to Domains » [Your Domain] » DNS.
  2. Click Edit Nameservers.
  3. Replace the custom nameservers with Hover's defaults:
    • ns1.hover.com
    • ns2.hover.com
  4. Click Save Nameservers.

Troubleshooting

  • Edit button not visible: Make sure you are on the DNS tab, not the overview tab. The nameserver edit option is only accessible from the DNS section.
  • Changes not saving: Ensure each nameserver field contains only the hostname (e.g., ns1.noc.org) without any protocol prefix or trailing characters.
  • Domain not resolving: Allow up to 48 hours for propagation. If the issue persists, check that your DNS records in NOC are configured correctly.
